Psychotherapist

Caroline Edgeton-Martin, M.S.Ed., Resident in Counseling

Talking about challenging thoughts and feelings can be hard for many of us. More often than not, though, when we keep this information to ourselves, feelings of loneliness, shame, and judgment can come up and negatively inform our self-perception. When we feel this sense of isolation, we can feel disconnected from others and ourselves. While you are beautifully unique in your own way, you are not alone. No matter your circumstance, everyone deserves to feel supported and heard.

My aim is to create a brave space for you to feel safe being vulnerable without judgment. I provide a culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and strengths-based approach to working with adolescents, teens, adults, couples, and families. I am Person-Centered and part of your healing journey’s team. We will collaborate and create treatment plans based on your unique needs and goals.

I currently specialize in working with individuals who identify as, or are questioning if they are, LGBTQIA+. I have experience using tools from Emotional Focused Therapy, Attachment Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Family Systems Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I will often incorporate mindfulness-based interventions to help facilitate deeper connections with the mind and body, as well. Lastly, I am LGBTQIA+ and ethical/consensual non-monogamy-affirming.

I completed my BA in English and Journalism from Wake Forest University and my M.S.Ed. in Mental Health Counseling at the University of Pennsylvania. My studies were multiculturally informed and focused on serving LGBTQIA+ individuals, providing mental health care to underserved communities, and relationship/intimacy counseling. I am currently a resident in counseling working towards LPC licensure in the state of Virginia
